That’s it!

I’ll define and explain who a content creator is, but before that, permit me to share, with you, the short story that inspired the writing of this article.
Here’s my story!
The first time I introduced myself as a content creator to my Internet marketing students, some of them looked askance at me and murmured.
Amid that silence, one of them courageously shot his finger into the air, signifying that he had something to say, maybe, about my introduction.
“Excuse me sir,” he said, as soon as I granted him the permission to say what he had to say, “I know you as a Web developer cum designer.
“I’m also aware that you make marketing videos for people, write blogs, press releases, and do copywriting.
“How come you didn’t introduce yourself with one of those job titles, but instead as a content creator?
“Are you now a content creator or a content creator in addition to what we already know about you?”
From his questions, it was clear that my former student ignorantly believed that a content creator was a different professional from a Web developer/designer, video maker/editor, copywriter, and press release writer.
He didn’t know that these professionals are content creators, and that content creator is a general name for all the people who do their kind of jobs.
That mild drama between my student and me took place in early 2009, and I was glad he later understood who a content creator was and became wiser.
I am, however, surprised that many people, in this day and time, still ask me that same old question, fourteen years after.
Let me answer the question, “Who is a content creator?” again, with a fresh perspective.
A content creator is simply “an imaginative, creative, or innovative organization or person who creates and shares or distributes content, offline or online, for self or for other people.”
The definition of “content” varies, depending on the context, platform, and audience preferences.
But fundamentally, it refers to “any information, material, or substance that is created in the form of text, graphics, drawing, audio, or video, among others, and presented through different mediums, to convey a message, tell a story, educate, inspire, attract attention, generate interest and provide relevant and valuable information, ultimately fulfilling the intended purpose of the creator or the platform it’s shared on.”
